The bulk of this collection includes event flyers and information hosted or co-hosted by the Cross Cultural Center from 1997-2008 that focused on cultural, political and academic topics. The documents were formally maintained by Cross Cultural Center upon donation.

Biographical / Historical
The Cross Cultural Centers initially founded in 1997 at Cal State LA provided students
with an inclusive and friendly space that hosted a variety of cultural, political and
academic events, as well as provided resources and other support to students.
Additionally the Cross Cultural Centers collaborate to annually host cultural
graduations that reflect cultures of graduating seniors, Raza Grad, Black Grad and
Asian Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern Graduation. The Cross Cultural Centers
were made of four student resource centers, the Asian Pacific Islander Student
Resource Center, the Chicana/o Latina/o Students Resource Center, Pan African
Student Resource Center and the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center.
The Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center (APISRC) established in 1993
worked to provide services and support for students who identified as, or were
interested in the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community and cultural issues. The
resource centers main purpose was to encourage and promote awareness of the API
cultures and students’ knowledge of important issues affecting the community and to
provide opportunities for leadership and personal development. This resource center
hosted annual events such as the Lunar New Year Celebration and the API Heritage
month celebration. A variety of student organization such as the Muslim Student
Association and the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity worked closely with the APISRC.
Chicana/o Latina/o Students Resource Center established in 1993 worked to provide
services and support for students who identified as, or were interested in the
Chicana/o Latina/o community and cultural issues. This resource center worked
closely with student organization such as Hermanos Unidos and El Movimiento
Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán.
Pan African Student Resource Center (PASRC) originally established in 1990
provided services and support for students who identify as, or were interested in the
Pan African community and cultural issues. The resource center sought to provide
support to students through connecting them with student organizations, faculty, staff
and other resources. The PASRC also worked closely with student organization like
the Black Student Union established in 1967 on campus and other African American
Sororities and Fraternities. This resources center also collaborated to host annual
events like their Black Liberation Month and Kwanzaa Celebration.
Gender and Sexuality Resource Center originally established in 1976 as the Women’s
Resource Center is dedicated to creating safe and respectful learning spaces, catering
specifically to the empowerment of Women, Men and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Questioning/Queer (LGBTQ) community. The space focused itself
in challenging societal norms that have been used historically to oppress and
marginalize, while raising awareness on contemporary issues faced by these
communities. This organization in addition to working with student organization such
as the Queer Connection and the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance also produced
Loudmouth Zine in 2003 This Zine published the works of emerging and experienced
writers and artists focused on feminist issues.
