Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This small series consists of five posters one of which includes Rodolfo F. Acuna v. Regents of the University of California, Santa Barbara Poster. The case revolves around Acuna applying in 1990 for a position in the Chicano Studies Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Despite his impressive credentials, he was turned down. Members of the department, who had voted to hire him, were overruled by a review committee. Acuna sued the University of California Regents in 1992. On October 30, 1995, he won a milestone victory when a multiracial jury in Los Angeles agreed that he had been discriminated against. This series also includes a poster of the PBS Special, Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement from 1996.
