This collection is part of a larger collection belonging to the Latin American Studies center at Cal State LA. This collection was created by Gladys Garcia during her Cal State LA Special Collections and Archives internship in the spring of 2017. The Latin American Studies center acquired both publications and political posters in the collection by a number of different students and faculty active in organizing and raising awareness about U.S. intervention in Central America and the Central American diaspora coming to the U.S.

Series I: Publications Inclusive Dates: 1975-1996 Arrangement: Alphabetical and there under chronological

This large series consists of six subseries: a. Bulletins, 1980-1992, b. Newsletters, 1975-1993, c. Oversized publications,1980-1992, d. Magazines/Zines, 1980-1985, e. Journals,1981-1992 and f. other publications, 1975-1994. The first series of bulletins are predominantly monolingual documents in Spanish that are directly from Central American countries. The second and third subseries of newsletters and oversized publications contain publications of organizations in solidarity with countries experiencing turmoil due to the conflict. Alert! Published by CISPES is an organization still active in the Los Angeles area. The rest of the subseries contain publications produced by militant organizations such as FMLN (El Salvador), FSLN (Nicaragua), and URNG (Guatemala) and liberation theology-based publications such as Diálogo and LUCHA.

Series II: Political Graphics Inclusive Dates: 1976-1989 Arrangement: Alphabetical and there under chronological

This series consists of two subseries; a. Posters, 1976-1989 and b. Oversized Posters, 1988. The graphics in this collection contain images relating to advocacy for militant-revolutionary organizations in the country, liberation theology, human rights abuses, U.S. intervention in the Central America, and literacy projects in Nicaragua. The subseries is a mixture of English and Spanish language posters, with a couple in French and Miskito language of the Miskito peoples in Nicaragua.
